Nicolas is an experienced, multi-skilled hospitality executive with exceptional knowledge of hotel operations and asset management.

Former President of the Hashoo Group and COO of the ARTIC, Nicolas has a strong track-record in implementing strategies which drive operational performance and shareholder returns.

Nicolas has thorough operational background, having held positions from Area General Manager, General Manager, Operations Director, Rooms Director and Director of F&B for the Ritz-Carlton, Hilton and Concorde Hotels & Resorts. He also has strong advisory experience.

Nicolas has an MBA in Hospitality & Tourism from Edinburgh Napier University and graduated from Ecole Superieure de Tourisme Paris and Ecole Hoteliere de Strasbourg.

Ellen Montanari
Senior Consultant

Ellen Montanari leads research at SHC and has been involved in several projects ranging from market and financial feasibility studies to strategic advice and operator selection.

A graduate of École Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), Ellen has lived and worked across the globe, including China, India, South Africa and the UAE. She is fluent in English, German, French and Spanish and has conversational skills in Mandarin and Arabic.

Ellen’s research skills combined with her international experience and analytical thinking ensure creative and innovative consulting solutions are provided for each Client.

Michael Metcalfe
Digital & Technology

Michael excels at hotel digital strategy, including in-house technologies, online tools, systems and automations, e-commerce, social media and distribution channels.

With 15+ years of international hospitality experience, ranging from executive roles at global hospitality brands to entrepreneurial start-ups, Michael is at the forefront of hotel technology opportunities and innovation. He is a creative mind who thinks differently with sharp, modern analysis. Michael brings cutting edge digital and technical know-how to SHC’s projects, with the ability to analyse situations and recommend opportunities to maximise asset returns.

Michael has an MBA (Hotel & Tourism Management) and also studied at Cornell Hotel School.

Kathryn is a recognized leader, renowned for her industry expertise in global spa and wellness operations. Kathryn has conceptualised and executed some of the best models in the industry, delivering incomparable spa experiences that are operationally sound and profitable from the start.

A trusted advisor to prominent hotel groups and spas globally, Kathryn has successfully completed more than 50 spa and wellness projects in 15 countries with clients including Anantara, Starwood, Hyatt, Ritz Carlton and Mövenpick.

Expertise includes spa contract negotiations, business model development, feasibility & market research, ROI analysis, concept & menu development, technical services, business performance audits, recruitment, training and spa management solutions.

Mark Arnall
Fitness & Recreation

Mark is an external advisor to SHC in topics related to hotel fitness and recreation.

Mark is a world renowned personal trainer with 29 years of experience working in Formula 1. Mark has been a Performance Coach to F1 drivers Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Räikkönen, Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard. Mark has worked at Ferrari, McLaren, Lotus and Alfa Romeo and currently works for F1 management.

Mark brings a strong knowledge of hotel fitness to SHC. He has first-hand experience of what is required, what works and what does not when it comes to hotel gym design and fitness and recreational concepts. Over the past 25+ years travelling in F1, Mark has identified best practices for hotel fitness and developed in-house fitness solutions for travelers. Mark has provided invaluable input on a number of SHC projects ranging from remote island resorts to city properties.
